  • Overview

    This position will provide engineering/technical expertise to solve the most complex problems, and provide leadership skills to provide in a specific area of expertise, with wide latitude for un reviewed work.  Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills, work independently and are to be considered industry experts in the utilities and distribution field. 

     

    This person will be functioning in a QA/QC role over a consultant engineering team.  Some distribution engineering design will be required from time to time as well as customer interaction

    Responsibilities

    • Design 12.5/25 kV  overhead and underground tap line as well as subdivisions
    • Ability to calculate voltage drop, flicker, fault current, transformer loading, and conductor sizing.
    • Project manager for large distribution projects including design through construction.
    • Perform design audits and correct any deviations from company standards and procedures.
    • Create, assemble, print, and deliver construction plans including material lists and estimated work hours.
    • Track and manage ordering of long lead items for high profile projects.
    • Coordinate with 3rd party utilities and cities for common use pole lines in conjunction with joint use contracts.
    • Individual contributor who works independently and can also mentor other engineering professionals.
    • Provides technical leadership and direction on a corporate or industry level in their field of expertise.
    • Engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems.
    • Effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
    • Thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
    • Continuous improvement of job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Accurate records and files.

    Qualifications

    Background MUST haves:

    • Strong understanding Distribution Engineering Systems
    • Proven 5+ yrs experience
    • E. or ability to get in next six months

    Nice to haves:

    • BS Degree Electrical or Civil Engineering
    • Transmission Engineering experience

    Professional Attributes:

    • Excellent trouble-shooter
    • Excellent Customer Facing Skills

     


    Typical Day…

    • 60-80% of day, in office working QA/QC and/or doing distribution engineering design other 20-40% in the field solving problems or customer contacts
